Ghanaian highlife musician, Kwame Eugene, has called on radio DJs to promote Ghanaian music through their media without expecting favours or handshakes.

The ‘Ohemaa’ hitmaker said DJs should play songs of Ghanaian artistes with the same fervour they promote Nigerian songs.

Speaking with Nana Romeo on Accra100.5FM’s ‘Ayekoo Ayekoo’ programme, Kwame Eugene advised DJs to be patriotic enough to promote Ghanaian songs even if they are not thanked for it.

He wondered why Ghanaian DJs say they do not promote Ghanaian artistes’ songs because those stars do not even call them to say ‘Thank you’ after doing so.

He argued that Nigerian artistes do not call DJs to thank them either, but their songs are replete on Ghanaian radio airwaves.

“DJs should promote Ghanaian songs, and shouldn’t wait to receive thank you phone calls from musicians before they do so. Play musicians’ songs without expecting to be appreciated, do it because we are your brothers,” Kwame Eugene urged.

In his view, money will continue to stay in the country if Ghanaian songs are played and the musicians get rich, adding that Nigerian artistes rather fly their money back home which does not benefit Ghana in any way.
