President Nana Akufo-Addo has described as unacceptable the use of force by Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) against foreigners engaged in retail business.

He said a committee is in place to resolve the concerns of GUTA in the application of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) act.

GUTA has been waging a relentless war to get foreigners out of the retail space for years but has been unsuccessful in its drive.

The GIPC Act 856 exclusively reserves the retail trade area for Ghanaians and even prescribes punishment for foreigners engaged in retail business but lack of enforcement has been the bane.

At the Okaishie market, leadership of GUTA resurrected the aged old issue at a meeting with President Nana Akufo-Addo.

But, President Akufo-Addo condemned the use of force on foreigners and their businesses in Ghana.

He was, however, confident a committee, headed by the Trades Minister, would soon bring finality to the issue.

President of GUTA, Dr Joseph Obeng, said the members were out of control and warned they could take the laws into their own hands.
