A former VRA Chief Executive, Kwaku Andoh Awotwi, has been appointed to chair the board of Volta River Authority, (VRA).

Outlining problems facing the authority, in his acceptance speech, Mr. Awotwi said:, “the debt issue is probably the biggest in the sector. The government is already putting together a bond through the energy sector levy.”

“The implementation of that is critical and the highest priority. We must get that done as quickly as possible”.

“The way forward has been well laid out by the president already in terms of restructuring VRA. We are not here to change direction, we are here to support the current government”, he said.

He expressed his gratitude to the President for the confidence reposed in him and promised to execute his responsibilities diligently.

The eight-member board include; Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Dr. Joyce Rosalind Aryee, Richard Obeng Okrah and Nana Kobina Nketiah V.
The rest are El-Farouk Umar, Musah Badimsugru Adam and Mrs. Janet Anane.

The Deputy Minister of Energy, Willaim Owuraku Aidoo, tasked the newly appointed board to spearhead the restructuring of the authority, ensuring that the non-power businesses of VRA are commercialised so they do not act as a drain on its the operations.
