The U.S. Embassy in Ghana has issued a security warning to its citizens in Ghana of a demonstration being organised today, Wednesday, 20 December against President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel.

The route for the demonstration starts from Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and ends at the Old Hearts of Oak’s park.

“The U.S. Embassy urges U.S. citizens to avoid the area until normal traffic patterns are restored. U.S. Embassy personnel have been instructed to avoid this area.

“Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence,” the Embassy said in a statement.

The Embassy says U.S. citizens should “avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.”

It urged Americans to “review your personal security plans, and monitor local news stations for updates. Be vigilant and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security and follow instructions of local authorities.”

However, co-Chair of the demonstration, Ras Mubarak, MP for Kumbungu has assured all Americans in the country of their safety and even urged them to join in the march.
